I’ve previously written about about my fundamental believe that most people don’t care about privacy – unless we remind them they should care. I’ve also agreed that doesn’t equate to having a free ride with people’s privacy. I’d be the first to object. But every so often, I get a another piece of evidence that tips the scales in favor of my theory…
The graph below is from Google Trends. Having just been at Eric Schmidt’s keynote at DLD 2011, it was hard to miss the fact Eric made a leitmotiv out of the fact that every point he makes needs to be prefaced by “with your permission“. The guy is, no doubt, aware it’s an issue – although I’d argue the questions are being asked by journalists, not users (when is the last time you read through the Google privacy policy?) …
So – it does seem like, despite there being ever more about privacy in the news, people are actually searching less around the topic.
